The MCCA Leadership Academy is a hands-on, Michigan-specific professional development program for emerging leaders in the community college sector. Participants are nominated by their community college President or Chancellor. The nine-month cohort learning journey includes three live sessions with action-based learning projects in between, experiential learning activities, coaching and mentoring, and a capstone graduation experience in conjunction with the annual MCCA Summer Conference.
The 2022-23 Leadership Academy cohort includes 37 members from 22 community colleges. These leaders represent roles throughout the community college including faculty, staff, administrators, and executive leaders.
The MCCA Leadership Academy includes three in-person sessions with intersessions and other peer engagement through the academic year, culminating in a graduation ceremony at the MCCA summer conference.
MCCA will kick-off the first session of the MCCA Leadership Academy with a focus on horizontal and vertical leadership development, DiSC styles, and leadership competencies for executives along with presentations from Michigan presidents including President Beverly Walker Griffea from Mott Community College, President Steve Robinson from Lansing Community College, and President Stacy Young from Montcalm Community College. The second session of the MCCA Leadership Academy will continue our focus on leadership development along with presentations from Michigan presidents from across the state including President Kojo Quartey from Monroe County Community College, Dan Phelan from Jackson College, and John Selmon from Muskegon Community College. Leadership Academy participants are invited to join the MCCA Summer Conference at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa to participate in the MCCA summer conference with presidents, trustees, and other guests and celebrate their graduation at the MCCA Awards Ceremony.
