Coupling public benefits and student services (see Community College Daily article). Lake Michigan College was one of seven community colleges nationally to participate in the Benefits Access for College Completion initiative, focused on increasing low-income students’ access to public benefits, such as food assistance and Medicaid, to help students complete college.  The colleges have developed and implemented sustainable policies and practices to embed benefit access strategies into their operations, such as student services, financial aid, counseling and advising.
