Monroe Evening News editorial to support expansion of college degree options.

Posted: 3/3/2012 - 08:59 AM

Editorial highlights the benefits of HB 4496, which would allow community colleges to confer baccalaurete degrees in five applied and technical areas.  Editorial argues that four-year universities just aren't practical options for everyone at all times. Community colleges are far less expensive, and they're more accessible for rural residents and for those with families or jobs who don't live in university towns.  In addition, the editorial goes on to argue that state officials project that by 2015, Michigan could be facing a shortage of more than 18,000 nurses.  It could get even worse because of national standars that encourage the hiring of nurses with four-year degrees over those with associate degrees. nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives
