Detroit Free Press editorial on expanding the role of community colleges.

Posted: 2/29/2012 - 06:22 AM

This is a legislative priority for the MCCA.  Permissive legislation to allow community colleges to offer baccalaureate degrees in five applied and technical programs: Concrete technology, maritime technology, culinary arts, energy production technology, and nursing.  Maximing the community college system would create increased access and affordability to baccalaureate level training for many Michigan citizens who are currently geographically or financially place-bound. Twenty one other states already authorize their community colleges to confer baccalaureate degrees in select areas to meet employer/industry demand.  Please click here for summary data on the baccalaureate authorization, and here for data on nursing.
