Position involves preparing for and teaching courses in the department of Art & Design. Course assignments may occur in a classroom setting, hybrid, or online environment. As a full-time faculty member, the incumbent will also provide academic advising to students and participate in retention activities. The incumbent will also be expected to actively participate in curriculum review, revision, and development as well as assessment of student learning outcomes. They will coordinate teaching labs including recommendations on hardware and software.

1.Primary curricular area of responsibility is to maintain, develop, and teach Art and Design courses.
2.Develops and maintains connections with the graphic design industry, arts community and regional businesses to maintain a relevant curriculum.
3.Develops and updates syllabi for Art & Design courses and ensures course content and requirements meet college and accreditation requirements.
4.Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
5.Evaluates student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
6.Assists with building class schedule for areas of discipline.
7.Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, such as student attendance and grades.
8.Reviews, selects and orders course books and other instructional materials.
9.Coordinates lab facilities on both campuses including hardware, software and supplies: computers labs and green screen lab.
10.Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
11.Attends, facilitates, and/or leads staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide; serves on college committees as encouraged/assigned.
12.Oversees the Graphic Design advisory committee activities.
13.Complies with regular PROE and Program Reviews in conjunction with grant requirements.
14.Maintains relevancy with current practices, technologies and knowledge through regular professional development.
15.Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
16.Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures support for the Teaching Profession Code of Ethics.
17.Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
•Knowledge of course content and ability to develop and effectively deliver course content/objectives and facilitate an effective learning environment for students to maximize their success.
•Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and other industry standard software.
•Proficient in Mac and Windows operating systems.
•Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
•Knowledge and ability to infuse historical context, typography and iconography in courses.
•Knowledge of course content in additional visual arts courses preferred.
•Knowledge of computer and educational technology and ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
•Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities effectively.
•Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a close, collaborative manner with other faculty, students and administration.


•A. or M.F.A in Art, Graphic Design or related field required.

•One - three years of teaching experience in Art and Design courses preferred.
•Recent MFA graduates and anticipated May 2017 MFA graduates are encouranged to apply.

Working Conditions:

Normal classroom and/or laboratory environments with little, if any discomfort due to heat, dust, noise and the like. Course assignments will be on both campuses, and may include both day and night classes, and assignment to courses taught in a high school or online environment, if needed. Ability to travel to Harrison and Mt. Pleasant campus locations.
